International Women’s Day: A Homage to our Femalepreneurs (Part 2/2)
International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated annually on 8th of March. Coincidentally, it is the 111th year of celebration this year. Paying homage to women, it celebrates the journey and achievements of women in modern society. From politics and economics to entrepreneurship, women's representation has shifted beyond being just a supporting role in these ecosystems. IWD is also observed in support of taking action against gender inequality around the world.
In this 2nd part of a 2 part editorial, we feature snippets of 5 more femalepreneurs and the motivations behind the brand that they represent. Among them includes a recipient of Singapore Entrepreneur 100 award 2021, a founder who empowers self-care through sustainable scented candles and a brand that incorporates a humorous and Singlish twist on their merchandise to give it a uniquely Singapore identity.
[ Fragrance ]
Singapore Memories is a homegrown brand specializing in fragrances, inspired by the richness of Singapore’s heritage and culture. It’s vision of aiming to be the leading souvenir brand in Singapore has inadvertently also led to its founder being a recipient of Singapore Entrepreneur 100 Award, 2021 - an accolade befitting a tenacious female who also runs a parallel business Scentopia, an experiential perfume and scent attraction.
Whether you are looking for a corporate gift, tourist souvenir, or simply wish to immerse in the quixotic Singapore culture, Singapore Memories has a range of sophisticated, elegant and aromatic scents to evoke healing and relaxation.
Inspired by the old iconic Singapore, fragrances come in either perfume or room spray bottles. Its popular scents are the Peranakan Oud perfume which celebrates the aroma of the Peranakn culture, the Therapeutic Orchids room fresher - a homage to our National flower and the Orient perfume.
[ Plushies ]
The co-founders include 2 females, whose common love for food was the start of the Nom Nom plush journey. From a fun, passionate project - creating nostalgic local delicacies into huggable merchandise - they have since expanded their plushies range to include a pets range under the brand Furball Collective.
While one might think that this novel idea is relatively simple, on the contrary, it takes between 6 - 8 months to conceptualize, produce and launch a new product. Further as few iterations are involved, the final design has to be aesthetically pleasing yet functional. As Nom Nom aptly emphasizes, “It is important to us that the design is aesthetically pleasing, yet of good quality,” - Nom Nom plush.
Nom Nom plush best sellers include the Curry Puff cushion, the Bubble Tea cushion and the Wa Ko Kueh cushion. Also don't forget to check out their squeaky chew toys range for pets which include Gem Biscuit, Curry Fish Head bed set and Pineapple Tart chew toy from Furball Collective.
