Secret Getaway - CATALOG Magazine Associate Editor Anton Curates For Naiise
Everybody loves a secret getaway, for a brief respite or for priceless moments of luxurious living. But we don't always have to travel to foreign lands just to enjoy these finer things in life. For this collection, we invited Anton D. Javier, the associate editor of CATALOG magazine, to curate products that can - hopefully - let you indulge in an opulent lifestyle, almost like a vacation right at home.
CATALOG magazine is a monthly publication that chronicles the best in fashion, shopping, art, design and lifestyle. View Anton's curated collection here, and scroll down to find out more about Anton and the CATALOG team's upcoming plans.
1. Please tell us more about CATALOG magazine and the work that you guys do?
CATALOG Magazine, which has been around for 10 years now, is a monthly publication dedicated to chronicling the best in fashion, shopping, art, design and lifestyle in Singapore and beyond.
2. Could you share with us more about yourself and how you became an editor?
I've always been drawn to the written word for as long as I can remember, which is why I was adamant in pursuing a career in writing and editing. I've been a professional writer/editor for about six years now and I'm loving every minute of it. I run my own website where I write about menswear, travel and design and the good folks at CATALOG came across it last year and asked me to be a part of the team as associate editor. Of course I agreed to join them right away because I've been a fan of the magazine for a very long time.
3. You get inspired when/by...?
I get inspired by A LOT of things. I get inspired by a great song or a fantastic book; Scandinavian and Japanese design; French labels like A.P.C. and Maison Kitsuné; young designers creating magic out of nothing; the '90s; and a whole lot more. I could go on and on.
4. Thank you for curating this collection. What are your top three picks from the collection?
(1) Things I Ate In Singapore Postcard, (2) Kenny Cuff Bracelet, (3) Daryl Trolley
5. How do you think design is relevant in everyday life?
Design's relevance stems from its power to change lives, even in the simplest way. Smart design has the ability to make everyday tasks easier, while clever and beautiful design can do something simple (yet essential) like making you smile.
6. What can we look forward to from CATALOG Magazine in the year ahead?
Readers can watch out for more features on local designers and artists who are breathing new life to Singapore's fashion and design scene. We also have a pop-up shop at TANGS Orchard right now that features mobile phone cases that feature our talented design team's artworks (it will run until the end of June). Lastly, we have an exciting retail project coming up real soon, so watch out for that!
