Meet The Maker : Sketchyo

We spoke to one of our newest brands, (Sketchyo) Shivali Hisariya, about her passion for painting and what made her start her business selling her prints!

Tell us a little about yourself and your journey to owning your own business/brand.

By profession, I am a lawyer. I moved to Singapore in February 2018 after getting married. It was very difficult to find a job here especially when a degree is not recognised. I was sad and disappointed with everything around me. I always loved painting and drawing since childhood but never thought of turning it into a career. My husband knew about it so he asked me to start painting till the time I find a job. That was the day I started painting back in 2018 and since then, I have never stopped painting. Painting makes me happy!

What is the first item you created? What was the story behind it?

Initially, my focus was only sketching and shading. I did lot of shading work to start with. Later, during this circuit breaker I saw some amazing sunset & sunrise from my balcony. Everything looked so magical and I had the urge to put them down on my canvas. That’s when I started my journey of painting skies. I like to call these painting “starry skies emerging amid life under coronavirus lockdown”

What was the most heart-warming comment that you have received for your business?

One of my friend messaged me on Instagram saying that her 4-year-old son has gained an interest in painting after seeing my page. It was one of the best compliment.

How did you envision your brand in shaping the world around you?

A conscious effort to remain sustainable. My paintings tell a story of hope.

“Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come. You wait and watch and work: you don’t give up.” – by Anne Lamott

What is the greatest lesson you have learnt while building your business?

Never give up and be brave. It's important to never look back and keep moving forward.

What wise words do you have for people who want to start their own business?

Look for the inspiration around you. As an artist, you will see so much more than what meets the eye.

How do you feel the Naiise Marketplace can help sellers with their business?

An amazing platform that helps artist to be seen to a larger audience. It can help me target the right kind of audience who would love my work.
