Happy Mother's Day!

Moms are superwomen. They have dedicated their lives to us since we are born. Some juggled motherhood with their careers, while others decide to focus on bringing us up full time. Moms are the best, period.

This Mother's Day, we visited some of the moms who are part of Naiise and gave them a small token of appreciation. Special thanks to Ette Tea and Pindemic for their contributions. :)

Amreen, Kala Pata

Tell us about your brand and yourself.

Sophisticated, beautifully designed stationery and gifts that celebrate stories from Singapore and around the world. I created Kala Pata to feed "your wanderlust".

What's one of the hardest things about being a mum and a business owner at the same time?

Time management and feeling guilty about not spending enough "quality" time with my daughter.

What's the greatest joy of being a mum?

It is incredibly humbling to see how my daughter is literally growing up in front of my eyes. I sometimes have to pinch myself. It's a really exciting stage as Sofia is slowly learning to talk!

How has your child changed you?

It's definitely made me more selfless!

What's your favourite moment as a mum?

Love our bedtime ritual — Sofia gets a bath, then we play followed by reading her favourite book and lots of cuddles.

Dawn, Anders & Dawn

Tell us about your brand and yourself.

I'm a mama to one little boy. Wife and maker of silicone jewelry at Anders & Dawn, a little lifestyle store in Singapore for all things children and home. I love all things Scandinavian and monochrome, and is reflected in my designs and the products I bring to the shop.

What's one of the hardest things about being a mum and a business owner at the same time?

Figuring out how to strike a balance to give the best I can to do both well. I work from nap to nap where I try to do the majority of my work when my son is sleeping so sometimes i may have to place a business idea or project on hold to accommodate for my family. It's all about having flexibility, being prepared and scheduling work around family as much as possible.

What's the greatest joy of being a mum?

Being a special part of my son's life. To watch him smile, cry, laugh, learn, explore and grow.

How has your child changed you?

Mostly it has made me less self centred. I still do spend time on myself and have interests that are not baby related, but my life is basically centred around the needs of my son. Being a mother has also made me appreciate my own mother so much more. Time has become a precious commodity now and risk taking more risky. Thankfully, my instincts have sharpened, and my spirit strengthened. I feel grateful and challenged as a mum.

What's your favourite moment as a mum?

I have so many favourite moments and one of them are in the mornings when we wake up and my son is still so sleepy, but greets me with that sweet smile on his face and reaches out for a cuddle and to hold my hand. It's the best way to start out my day!

Genevieve, The Edible Co.

Tell us about your brand and yourself.

The Edible Co. believes that good food is a right and not a privilege. We treat our ingredients like family, with respect and that means we do not add any nasties to it. Only good stuff for good people.

I'm a self-proclaimed hippie-wannabe with an aspiration to make small changes to how people perceive "healthy food" by starting it with her family.

What's one of the hardest things about becoming a mum and a business owner at the same time?

EVERYTHING. Figuring out priorities and knowing when to get off work mode to have a life balance.

What are you most excited about becoming a new mum?

To have someone that you are responsible of, who will look to you for everything. I cannot wait to show her the world, to love and inspire her to be the perfect version of whatever she hopes to be. And of course, I can’t wait for baby smells.

How has this new phase changed your life?

It has certainly put many things in perspective. A lot of things that used to be important to me, isn’t anymore. I guess it’s true when they say that being pregnant changes you for the better. And I think I’m definitely a calmer person, or I hope I am a calmer person. (Maybe you need to ask my husband and parents about this.)

What do you look forward to the most about being a mum?

To be exactly how my mother was to me. She is an inspiration, super capable and patient and I want to be all of that.

I want to be just like my mother.

Nat, Hunters' Kitchenette

Tell us about your brand and yourself.

The Hunters’ Kitchenette is something that we created wholeheartedly to share with other people that we care about their health as much as we care about our own family.

As for myself, I’m just a simple person who’s trying my best to live my life positively and happily. Family is my number one priority and my husband, children, sisters and brothers are my best friends.

What's one of the hardest things about being a mum and a business owner at the same time?

Many times when we do production, I don’t get to see our children the whole day even though we are still in Singapore.

What's the greatest joy of being a mum?

I have unlimited supplies of hugs and kisses!

How has your child changed you?

You get to know the real meaning of unconditional love.

What's your favourite moment as a mum?

The happiness that our kids expressed the moment we reached home and opened the door..

Shanice, Oat To Joy

Tell us about your brand and yourself.

Oats To Joy is all about wholesome cereal made with zero preservatives or additives. We love to share the importance of eating healthily. I'm also a stay-home mum with love for superfoods.

What's one of the hardest things about being a mum and a business owner at the same time?

There isn't a pause button being a mother; while being responsible for a life, for her health, wellbeing and happiness, I have to cope with incoming orders. I have hundreds of days consecutively with no sleep, not just a tough night once in a while. Support from family members is extremely important, and that keeps me going.

What's the greatest joy of being a mum?

Holding a precious life in my arms and cherishing each moment because they grow up too quickly!

How has your child changed you?

Resetting my priorities. Chores not done and backlogs not cleared by deadlines, but seeing my little one fed and sleeping soundly is all that really matters.

What's your favourite moment as a mum?

The precious first few weeks like Audria's first smiles, her double sneezes, and those newborn scented cuddles, because there'll be a day, I'll look back and realise these were some of the best times of my life.

Teresa, Balm Kitchen

Tell us about your brand and yourself.

Balm Kitchen is about creating the best nourishing skin food for you and your family. I am first and foremost a woman who is in charge of her life, a mother to my two lovely children, an understanding wife to my supportive husband and also a great friend to the ones dearest to me. My favourite quote is "Being successful in life is not what really matters. Being significant in life is really the core root of what matters. – Funeral Director".

What's one of the hardest things about being a mum and a business owner at the same time?

I do not see being a mum and a business owner as a tough job. If it were easy, it wouldn’t make me who I am. I enjoy challenges and what each day entails. I welcome changes which can throw my schedule off but I’ll quickly view it as a message sent to me to learn how to adapt and do my best. I must say I have a very positive outlook on life and am grateful for the opportunities given to me and am blessed to have the support from my friends and family and also my wonderful customers.

What's the greatest joy of being a mum?

Seeing my children grow up every single day and being there for them whenever they need me brings me great joy.

How have your children changed you?

My children are a reflection of myself and being able to see myself as a child again through their eyes do help me to become a better mother and friend to them. They’ve taught me to be patient and to learn to listen more.

What's your favourite moment as a mum?

When my children are off to school or bed and that’s ME time! Hahaha!!! It would be when they tell me they love everything I did for them and also being there for them.

p.s. We are sorry we weren't able to get hold of all mummies! You guys are all amazing <3
